Sustainable Forest Management Responsibilities
S.N.B. Forest Products Marketing Board:
-to maintain and improve, where possible, Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Policies to support SFM Guiding Principles for the S.N.B. Region.
-to maintain and enhance, however possible, the SNB/SFM Mission to achieve the SNB/SFM vision.
-to provide the technical, financial, human and other resources to the extent possible to successfully carry out the SNB/SFM Planing Process and its implementation at the regional level.
Woodlot Owners:
-to determine what their specific SFM objectives are for their woodlots.
-to determine what the actual management practices to be carried out and who shall perform them on their woodlot.
-to be responsible for how management activities are performed and for their outcome.
-to practice good forest stewardship respecting SFM principles and contributing to the Sustainable Forest Management of the SNB region.
-to apply to join the SNB Working Woodlot Program.
S.N.B. Staff
-to conscientiously and enthusiastically promote the SNB/SFM Vision, Mission, Guiding Principles and Policies.
-understand how their own activities influence the successful implementation of the SFM Plan for the SNB region.
-make every effort to identify and incorporate suggestions for improving the SFM System.
-shall be accountable, knowledgeable, competent and responsible for their duties in the implementation of the SFM System on behalf of the SNB organization.
-to encourage participation in the SNB Working Woodlot Program.

Guiding Principles are adopted and endorsed as stated in the "New Brunswick Woodlot Owners' Code of Practice.
SNB/SFM Policies
implement such management systems or activities within their power and ability to achieve and maintain sustainable forest management according to the specifications of the CSA process for SFM registration.
all SFM activities and efforts shall be designed to meet or exceed all legislative or regulatory requirements of the federal, provincial, municipal, or other regulatory agencies.
carry-out periodic review of the SFM policies based on the results of implementing an SFM plan and process in our defined forest area.
document, communicate, or make readily available, the SNB/SFM policies to internal and external parties.
strive to achieve and maintain sustainable forest management of the S.N.B. defined forest area.
act responsibly as forest managers and encourage woodlot owners through stewardship in SFM with respect to all accepted forest and social values.
strive to maintain or enhance long-term forest productivity in a manner that has due regard for the environment.
attempt to integrate into forest management, recognized social values and the concerns of the public by co-operating with governments, local communities and others in improving SFM.
set short and long term objectives with measurable indicators as an integral part of the SFM System.
provide for public participation in the development of SFM objectives and indicators.
provide participation opportunities for Aboriginal peoples with respect to their rights and interests in maintaining the sustainability of the forest; to the extent that such rights and interests exist in the SNB defined forest area.
promote and/or provide conditions and safeguards for the health and safety of woodlot owners, their employees and the public.
encourage research on the forest and on SFM.
monitor improvements in science and technologies and SFM practices and to incorporate improvements where applicable.
ensure that adequate resources are available to carry-out actions related to the SFM Plan objectives, policies and procedures.
ensure that relevant national, provincial and regional policies are addressed in the SFM process.
implement the continuous improvement of all aspects of the SFM System and its performance.
